Choice of membership type: criteria
The Promoter Members form the basis for the development of the Sociolinguistics Cluster, both through their financial contributions and through their involvement in the decisions affecting the projects and the Cluster itself. In this respect, organisations that join the Cluster are mainly Promoter Members and so they are advised by the Governing Board.(See appendix).
However, the Cluster is keen to give all kinds of organisations of any nature, size or type in the sociolinguistic field the opportunity to participate in its internal dynamics. That way those organisations that have a small structure or which lack the necessary economic resources have the chance to be User Members.
Nevertheless, any new organisation requires a certain time to gradually get involved in the dynamics of any association. New members naturally have the chance to start in the Cluster as Promoter Members. Those that prefer to start off as User Members, on the other hand, may choose this option for a year and later opt to become Promoter Members.
After a year has elapsed, if those members wish to continue to be User Members (for example, those that wish to be User Members on a permanent basis), the organisation in question will have to submit the corresponding request to the Cluster’s Governing Board to continue as a User Member, and submit reasons.
Private individuals are a special case within the Cluster. The Cluster’s members are mainly legal entities (all kinds of organisations), but private individuals also have the chance to be members. Private individuals who join are User Members.
